This sculpture depicts Ganymede with the eagle of Zeus. It originates from Italy. The marblr sculpture is set on a Roman funerary altar with a Latin inscription for Ti. Cl. Corinthus. The altar was found near the Porta Capena at Rome in 1713 and was acquired by General Sir H. J. Montresor around 1750. It is believed that the sculpture was made in the 2nd Century AD.   This object is part of "Scan The World".
