Great poet and an outstanding humanist, Francesco Petrarca (1304 – 1374), commonly anglicized as Petrarch, was appointed Honorary Canon of the Cathedral of Padua in 1350. His rediscovery of Cicero's letters is often credited with inventing the 14th-century Renaissance. Petrarch is often considered the founder of Humanism.
