Ever since horses were domesticated by men in 3500 B.C. they have exerted a strong fascination on them, a fascination that may be witnessed through art. If the provenance of this sculpture is unsure, we may suppose in is from the Ancient Greek or Nabataean time. The horse is represented with reins, which indicates that it belonged to a statue representing a horse at work – most probably pulling a cart. However horses have always been of great value, and therefore quite expensive: having a horse is therefore a proof of some wealth.
