The kouros is a statue of a young man, usually nude, in frontal position. They were usually erected at the entrance of sacred places such as temples, palaces or cemeteries. They paved the way to the refinement and subtlety of Classical Greek sculpture in the 5th century. This fragment comes from Kassandreia (Potidaia), Chalkidiki.
