In this work the sculptor, Francesco Laurana (1430-1502) crystallizes the essentials of the face in the ordered calm of pure and mellow geometric forms. It is assumed by many critics that the bust is a portrait of Isabella of Aragon. Isabella was a Queen consort of Portugal and heir presmptive of King Ferdinand II of Aragon and Queen Isabella I of Castile, as their eldest daughter.   Further reading - Burger F., Francesco Laurana, Strasbourg 1907, 114 Taf. 26,2 - Pope Henessy, RS 1986, 315 See Louvre Castings, Catalog 1991, 217: PI007225
