The sculpture, reassembled from fragments and heavily supplemented, depicts an old woman tightly clutching a lagynos (Hellenistic wine jug). The work falls within the category of Hellenistic representations of people with vices who are depicted in their degraded daily lives. The rendering of the veins and the wrinkles is especially realistic, and along with a particularly detailed drapetry suggests that it was made in this time. The statue was found in 1620 during the restoration work of the church of Saint'Agnes in via Nomentana. Old Woman with vase, 3th or 2nd cent. BC Roman copy. Original from Müchen, Glyptothek. The Royal Cast Collection (Copenhagen, Denmark). Made with Memento Beta.   This object is part of "Scan The World".
