From the catalogue description: constructed of two lacquered papier-mâché panels connected with an accordion-like fabric lining. The portrait of Queen Victoria shows her facing left with an ermine cape with red sleeves, a brown bodice and green sash around her waist. Her hair is parted at the centre and falls in ringlets at either side of her face. The image on the reverse depicts a sailor in a red and white striped shirt, pale coloured pants, a blue sash around his waist and a red cap branding a slave on the right shoulder. A young sailor holding a lantern stands to the right, with his shirt tied around his waist. He is wearing green pants. A whip lays on the ground behind him. ________ This object is scanned by Virtual Curation Lab
