In Greek mythology, Meleager was a hero venerated in his temenos at Calydon in Aetolia. He was already famed as the host of the Calydonian boar hunt in theepic tradition that was reworked by Homer. This larger than life size torso fragment is identified as being of the Hero. The subject was identified after the 5th century sculpture by Skopas of Paros, standing with the weight on his right leg and fragmentary hand resting behind his right hip with the palm up. The largest giveaway is the torso wearing a chlamys fastened with a brooch on the right shoulder and draped over the left arm, a boar spear formerly held in his left hand.   This object is part of "Scan The World". Scan the World is a non-profit initiative introduced by MyMiniFactory, through which we are creating a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks and landmarks from across the globe for the public to access for free. Scan the World is an open source, community effort, if you have interesting items around you and would like to contribute, email [email protected] to find out how you can help.
