Marble bust of Charles Maclaren by William Brodie, Edinburgh, 1861. Charles Maclaren (1782-1866) was a self-educated journalist, one of the founders The Scotsman newspaper and editor of the sixth edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica. He was also President of the Geological Society of Edinburgh. His friends commissioned this bust in the classical style from William Brodie in recognition of his achievements. View this object (A.1868.32) in the Decorative and Applied Art Collection of National Museums Scotland.
