Until then, sculptors conventionally preferred to conform to the biblical account and represent The Holy Women at the Tomb, as can be seen on the back of his capital. Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Mary Salome come to anount the body of Christ on Easter morning, buy find the tomb empty, guarded by an angel.
