This marble bust of Francis Seymour-Conway, sculpted by Sir Francis Legatt Chantrey, was commissioned by his widow. From there the artwork was bequeathed to Sir John Murrey Scott, sold at a Christie's auction in 1913 before ending in The Wallace Collection. Bought for £4,048 by the Art Fund for the museum. Francis Seymour-Conway, 1st Marquess of Hertford, was a British courtier and politician.
