The plaster model for this sculpture group, commissioned by Marc René d'Argenson, the Marquis de Voyes, was exhibited at the Salon of 1765. This stone sculpture depicting a follower of Bacchus, the Greco-Roman god of wine and theatre, decorated the terrace of the (now destroyed) Hotel d'Argenson in Paris.
