Culture: Neolithic Material: Jadeite Dims: L 4.9cm, W 3.5cm Accession No: HCA 172 A Current Location: The Hunt Museum, Limerick. This miniature axe weighs 40g, has an oval cross section, curved, asymmetrical edges, asymmetrical sharp blade and rounded butt. The blade, sides and faces are ground. The blade and faces are polished. Remnant pecking is visible. The axe is displayed with an antler haft (HCA 172B). Jadeite is from the Alpine (Piedmont) area. In the Neolithic, Alpine quarries of Mont Viso produced small axe and adze-heads which were distributed across Western Europe. More.
