This Apulian red-figured volute-krater (wine bowl) originates from Greece, made around 320-310 BC. Made in Apulia by a late follower of the Baltimore Painter. One side is decorated with scenes from the Trojan War. On the other, Greeks are fighting Amazons, and an assembly of gods watches as Pelops and Oinomaos, King of Elis, sacrifice before their chariot race. Partly restored. Formerly in the posession of Prince Napoleon Bonaparte (1822-91)
