There is little documented about the neoclassical sculptor Pietro Galli. He was first written about upon becoming a student at the Thorvaldsen Museum in 1822. In the same year he is referred to as working for Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen in connection with the modelling of reduced versions of the artist's work. Galli went onto create his own career in 1842, working exclusively for the Torlonia family. This work depicting Apollo was created before this time in 1838.
