Antinous, the young lover of Roman Emperor Hadrian, is often portrayed as the god of wine and pleasure, Bacchus (or Dionysus). Antinous drowned in the Nile while travelling in the Emperor's entourage in 130 AD, but was deified by Hadrian, who had many statues and temples made in the young man's honour.
