The monumental cemetary of Milan is famous for its numerous statues dedicated to the wealthy families who have a tomb. As a tradition in funeral art, the sculptures represent either religious figures or mourners. The style is mostly Neoclassical or academic, as these subjects often call for it.  Here is the funeral sculpture of the Sagunti family, representing an angel making a move forward, lifting his hand, with a very calm expression. Angels are often used to represent eternity, but they are also the link between the mortals and the divine, therefore their placement in cemetaries promise the deceased an access to Heaven.
