Pajou designed this group on his own initiative, after the death in 1766 of Stanislas Leszczynski, former King of Poland, last Duke of Lorraine and father of Marie Leszczynska. The wife of King Louis XV is depicted like Charity, holding her cloak aside to reveal two children, while in her other hand she holds a medallion with a portrait of her father. The mirror and snake suggest Prudence; the stork represents final Piety.
