This fragment comes from the tomb of the musician Henry Du Mont (1610-1684) located in S. Paul’s Church, Paris. Henry Du Mont became organist of Notre-Dame de Maastricht at the young age of twenty years old, he then became director of Music at the Chapelle Royale in Versailles in 1663. Dumont was married (1653) to Mechthild Loyens, daughter of the mayor of Maastricht. As a widower he acquired the substantial benefice of the abbey of Silly near Lisieux in Normandy. In 1683 he resigned the last of his posts and died a year later in Paris.
