This sculpture is a copy of the real version by Marino Gropelli. Greek Goddess, Aletheia in mythology was a daughter of Zeus who personified the ideals of Truth and Sincerity.  Her Roman counterpart is Veritas. Aletheia is a Greek word variously translated as “unclosedness”, “unconcealedness”, “disclosure” or “truth”. The literal meaning of the word ἀ–λήθεια is “the state of not being hidden; the state of being evident” and it also implies sincerity, as well as factuality or reality.   A combination of chatter, consultations of numerology and an openness to see which Goddess would show up brought us (myself and Tracey – Co-Founder of the MotherHouse of the Goddess) to Aletheia and upon further exploration, the deft hand of the Goddess was revealed.  Truth is Aletheia,  but also wound into the meaning and etymology of the word Aletheia are the concepts of remembering and the state of being unhidden.  Implication is that the journey, that which we are seeking, needs to be “remembered” and “unhidden” to connect fully with the Goddess Aletheia. Truth, the Goddess Aletheia, simply is.  The laws of the Gods, universal laws, the rhythms of nature simply are.  Perception filters, the laws of man, life experiences, interpretation of information are where the experience of Truth become human.  Each human may see Truth differently (really interpret the Truth differently) but it doesn’t change Truth itself.  Rather, it reflects who we are and all of the attendant baggage that we carry. Women are a perfect example of the application of the perception filters of Truth.  Labels have been applied to the nature of Woman for thousands of years, beginning with sacred and divine, at times unclean and shunned, and accusations of wanton and tempting.  These were the Truths that others applied to women and we accepted them and even lived entire lives under those labels:  the Mother, the Career Woman, the Good Daughter, the Attendant Wife, the Whore, the Bitch, too many to name.  Under those labels and the acceptance by women of those labels, there was always Aletheia – She burns brightly in our WomanRoots, our Women’s Blood and within our Women’s Mysteries.  She held the Truth until we were ready to Remember and Become Unhidden.  For some, the journey to their True Selves is too frightening or perceived to be too difficult and Aletheia is relegated to the obscured and forgotten.
