Hello all. So I was playing this game No Man's Sky by Hello Games since they released a new patch and all that. The game relies heavily on procedurally generated content and I came across a ship variant that seemed to look like a hybrid of the ships in the movies Avatar, Pitch Black (and maybe a hint of those drop ships from starwars), etc. As usual, I bought that thing instantly ... in the game ofc. However THAT ship looks nothing like the model I am sharing ^.^ (for now!!). I did however really wanted to design that model with a lot of the features that were shown in the movies and maybe someday I will do that but it did inspire me to make this model that I am sharing. This is basically one of the rarer types of ships (called an "Exotic" class ship) that can be encountered in the game and even these have a lot of variations within the game. I designed this to challenge myself if I could potentially model the aforementioned ship or not. For now I feel confident I can :)So I am sharing with you this model as I have imagined it, NOT as it appears or works in game. I have added working doors/hatches for the cockpit and even designed tiny working landing gear features (which sadly caused alot of issues at the current scale except for the doors for the landing gear so I have not shown them in the media related to this for now, however just the doors for them look like tiny landing skids and provide some balance to the model.). The cabin doors in the game are not animated beyond a short animation and that is also shared with another class of ship :/ so I decided to add these features as I would have imagined them implemented. I am going to revisit this model and try to add the other addons from the game as working parts on this or a variant of this ship for the future as I really enjoyed the whole process of making and printing this model and ofc would like to eventually use the knowledge to model and print the design which initially inspired me. Do try to print this model and inform me if you run into any issues and I will try to resolve them if I can. I used to be a long time fan of 3d printing and used to print Knick knacks occasionally but regardless did not have enough time to really sink into this hobby. However due to the Covid-19 lock down and downsizing I suddenly found myself with a lot of free time and didn't know much what to do about it. Naturally I used that time to further my hobby and printed a lot of the models that I had archived but never printed. Eventually, I decided to try and model my own designs being encouraged by the numerous DIY and training videos on youtube. My first experience modeling was just awful (I used 3D Builder as it was "there" and free) but eventually I figured out other ways and tools to improve my skill. So here I am trying to see how much I can learn, achieve and maybe inspire with my skills.
